Basic Chess Tactics
This tactic occurs when you move one of your pieces allowing a piece behind, an
attack on an enemy unit that is not the King.

**If a check results when the piece in front is moved it is called a Discovered Check.
Diagram 1:

In the diagram above you will see the white bishop and knight highlighted in a
box. These are the pieces that we will be using to create our  Discovered Attack.
Diagram 2:

From  the  last  diagram  the White Knight has moved to e5. This now created a
Discovered Attack because once we moved our Knight to attack the Queen we
also opened our Bishops attacking line up to attack the Black Pawn on b7.

If  Black  protects  the  Pawn  on b7 our Knight will capture the Black Queen on
d7 and if Black  chooses  to protect the Queen then our Bishop will capture the
Black  Pawn  on  b7  and  then  will  capture  the  Black  Rook  on  a8  on whites
following turn.

The Discovered Attack is the Bishop attacking the Pawn and Rook.
Pieces that can deliver the Discovered Attack are:

  • Queen
  • Rooks
  • Bishops
