U.S. Chess Mates - Double Attack
U.S. Chess Mates
Professional Chess Instruction for Children of all Ages.
A Double Attack is when you move a unit onto a square that attacks two different
threats at the same time.
Pieces that can Double Attack:
Diagram 1:
When we look at this diagram it looks like a normal game. Little does black know
their are a few weaknesses that were overlooked. If you look at the knight located
on e5 you can see he is controlling a lot of the center of the board. You can also
see the knight is attacking blacks f7 square. Now look at the black rook located
on a8. The white diagonal is open, a perfect opportunity to attack.
Diagram 2:
Whites move was excellent. White played queen to f3. This move attacks the
Black Rook located on a8 as well as attacks the blacks f7 pawn. Their are two
threats here. The unprotected rook if not moved will be captured and can lead to
a checkmate in two moves, or the Pawn on f7 can be captured and the king will
be pushed aside while the white queen takes a lot of material on the kings side.
**The double attack can be a great way of making sure your opponent is paying
attention. If unnoticed a Double Attack can leave your opponent in trouble.
Whether its a lot of free material or the safety of the king a Double Attack is a
great and powerful way to show your presence on a chess board.
