U.S. Chess Mates - Trapping
U.S. Chess Mates
Professional Chess Instruction for Children of all Ages.
Trapping Pieces can be a very effective tool while playing chess. By trapping a piece
you can usually win material with pawns or pieces of lesser value.
Trapping your opponents pieces can be done using a combination of any of your
pieces.
In this diagram we will show you a queen trap.
Notice the black queen on h5, she does not have many open squares to move to.
The queen can only move safely along the white diagonal. By using the white
bishop on f1, we can simply trap by playing the Bishop to e2 (Be2). Now the black
queen cannot make any move that will keep her safe.
