U.S. Chess Mates - Bishop
U.S. Chess Mates
Professional Chess Instruction for Children of all Ages.
Piece Movement
You begin having one bishop on a light square and one on a dark square. Bishops
must stay on their own color.

Bishops move diagonal on their color. They may move forward and backwards as they
please. They may only when pieces block their diagonals.

Bishops capture pieces that are located on their diagonal. They simply push their way
onto the same square as an enemy unit and takes their square. The Bishop stops on
the square it captures the piece on. It may not capture and keep moving. If one of your
pieces is blocking the bishops diagonal you may not move through it.

Bishops are great to fill in holes in a pawn chain, or sneak attacks from a long distance.
Bishops are better in open positions and when you have pawns located on both sides
of the board.

If your trying to stop a Bishop from moving place your pawns in a chain on the same
squares as the color of bishop your trying to stop.

Bishops are very good at attacking your opponent from a distance. They are effective
when used with multiple pieces. They can be great protection for knights and queens
when attacking.
